Sound Technician
Sound Technician at Viking Cruises is a shipboard role responsible for the setup, operation, and maintenance of all audio systems across various entertainment venues, including theaters, lounges, and outdoor spaces.
Core Responsibilities
- Live Performance Support: Operate and mix audio for production shows, live bands, guest lecturers, and special events.
- System Setup: Prepare backline equipment, instrument microphones, and wireless microphone systems (e.g., Shure UHFR & ULXD).
- Technical Programming: Program sound consoles and computers (using software like QLab 5) during technical rehearsals.
- Maintenance: Conduct regular inspections and calibration of speakers, amplifiers, and DSP networks; troubleshoot equipment failures during live shows.
- Safety & Compliance: Adhere to public health and safety standards, maintaining order in all technical areas and participating in emergency drills.
Required Technical Skills
- Digital Consoles: Proficiency with Yamaha CL Series and Yamaha LS-9 consoles is required.
- Software: Strong knowledge of Audinate Dante, QLab, and DSP networking.
- Hardware: Deep understanding of signal flow, RF coordination, and component-level maintenance for microphones and amplifiers.
